LET THE ADVENTURE BEGIN!
Welcome back to school and welcome to what I know will be an exciting year of learning. For those of you who do not know me, my name is Roselynn Basso and I am thrilled to be your child's teacher this year. I am looking forward to working side by side with you and your children. My goal this year is for my fourth and fifth grade classes to be WILD about learning and to look upon every day as an adventure in learning that we will be taking together as a team. I'm hoping that my passion for teaching and learning is contagious and the desire to keep on learning new things stays alive and consistent.
I fully promise to challenge your children to become effective learners and critical thinkers, each reaching the height of his or her potential, but most importantly, to realize that at the core of all of our learning, at the beginning and end of every day and everything in between, is the power of God's love in our lives.
Along our adventures...
We do - we learn - we grow - we experience - we love
and hopefully we realize that
GOD IS WILD ABOUT US!!
St. Rose of Lima’s mission is to provide Gospel- centered education that empowers our students to become responsible and productive members of church and society.
If there are any questions or concerns that you may have, please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected].
Please see below for:
Guide to using my Teacher Page:
-HOMEWORK PAGE: Any homework in the subjects I teach will be posted on my Homework page. I will also indicate on this page test dates or due dates, being sure to bold or highlight them for your attention. I will also be using the REMIND app so that we are all on the same page- child, parent, and teacher!
-PARENT UPDATES/ CLASSROOM NEWS: On this page you can find class announcements and any updates I may have for you regarding what we are doing during the week(s) in any given subject or new approaches I may be trying for the class.
PARENTS- Please label all of your child's supplies and, if possible, place them in a Ziploc Big Bag (these are 10 gallon bags that will be able to fit all of their supplies). Their extra supplies will stay in their bags and I will replace items as needed.
I am soooo very excited to be teaching your children this year and partnering with you as we take this 5th grade learning journey together: child - parent - and teacher! I promise you that I will challenge your children daily and they will remain challenged throughout this year.
Homework will be assigned and posted on my webpage's homework page. Please help me stress the importance of homework, not only as a reinforcement of what was learned during the day, but also as a means of improving our sense of responsibility and accountability.
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have. I usually check my emails during my prep period and try and make it my practice to send an email response in a timely fashion, usually before the close of the day. ([email protected])
Below I will provide you with an overview of what we will be learning in our subjects during the week and will give the children at least one week's notice of a test date. Quizzes may be unannounced.
I update my webpage for the week on a Sunday evening, so if you need "our week at a glance" it should be available to you by that time.
Lastly, thank you for the gift of your child. Thank you for putting your trust and faith in St. Rose of Lima School and in me to teach and guide your most precious possession(s) - intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. Your child's overall well being will always be my main focus.
I will be using the Cornell Note taking method to highlight the important concepts and vocabulary in the different subjects’ chapters that we will be covering. These notes will be placed in their notebooks so when they are preparing for a test, everything they need to know and study will be at their fingertips. I find this method very effective since it zeros in on the points that are most important.
I will be using the REMIND app to remind you of upcoming tests or due dates or other classroom announcements. To join, go to Remind.com and click SIGN IN. Follow directions below to join the correct remind.
